Never in the history of F1 have so many teams, been in such a competitive position to fight for wins. Fernando Alonso believes that a difference of .2 seconds may separate the top 8 runners during qualifying. That is a stunningly close field. I am truly impressed with the initiatives the FIA and FOTA agreed to with the aero regs to keep the field this close. Rarely has the level of interest in testing been so high.

I cannot wait to see what 2009 will bring us!! Drama? Always. Excitement? You bet. Good Racing? It sure looks like it!

I have a few goodies for those that follow this website with any regularity… LOTS of photos from all the tests, the first photos to appear (on this site) of BrawnGP and many many more then previously seen of Lewis Hamilton.

Algarve Testing: 19 Mid/High res Photos

Jerez Testing: 12 Mid/High res Photos

Barcelona Testing: 23 Mid/High res photos

Finally, lets not forget why we all love this sport. It brings, me in particular, so much joy. I love to share my passion for it, and hope you feel the same excitement I do in the days before the Australian GP. I know I will be watching sitting like a kid on christmas as the cars start their engines up for the practice sessions this friday morning (EST).

Reaction to the FIA Championship Decision

Here it goes again. The FIA introduces radical cost cutting measures, a new and never before seen system for determining a champion and throngs of F1 fans throw their hands up in anger and declare jihad against Max Mosley and his henchmen for proposing such an idea. Do you really think this was a whim of an old man who is trying to torpedo the worlds most popular motor sport?

Get real people! As I wrote in the last blog on the 2009 rule changes, fans of Formula one have been demanding better racing and more action for a decade now. Since the late 90′s when F1 cars went to slicks and the cars became more technological marvels then racing machines, the racing has been somewhat stale and stagnant. Sure, some wonderful races that will go down in history as some of the best competitions between drivers have been in the last 5 or 6 years (Imola 2005 and 2006, Nurburgring 2005, Brazil 2008 to name a small few) but in general, once a driver has the number of points he absolutely requires to maintain his place in the championship, there isn’t much more he will be willing to do to win. Barcelona testing continues as Heidfeld, Raikkonen, and the surprise of the session, Jenson Button in the BrawnGP 001 all remain extremely close to one another as the rest of the field runs not far behind.

42 photos have been uploaded to the 2009 Barcelona Testing Album. Enjoy.
